The most important wearable symbol of respect and status is a Chilkat blanket. These were masterpieces woven from mountain goat wool and colored with rare blues, greens and yellows. They require intense focus and two or more years to create, featuring elaborate, precise geometric patterns unseen in most other artwork. My version is a little tongue-in-cheek. ‘Blanket statements’ cause puzzlement, misunderstanding and miscommunication. This painting reminds us that our words have consequences and impact. Although the piece may appear like a woven Chilkat, it is not a blanket at all. It’s here to keep the us diligent, respectful and concise in our words.
